Attached your protocols for this week; please review each day’s notes, duration and intensity levels to ensure that you understand the purpose of each day’s protocols. If you can ride during the week, pull from the weekend, and match the color (intensity).  If you can change up the location of each ride (logistics pending), that would be ideal.

Proper Intensity = Improved Performance

Proper training intensity is a cornerstone of long-term athletic development and race-day performance. Workouts designated in red are not just another session on the calendar—they are intentionally structured to push your physical and mental limits by 1–2%. These workouts require a deliberate mindset shift. Taking the time to mentally prepare before executing them is essential, as the goal is to challenge your current threshold—what we often refer to as your “critical speed.” By pushing just beyond what you’ve previously been able to tolerate, you stimulate adaptation at both the muscular and neurological level. This includes increases in muscle recruitment efficiency, pain tolerance, and mental resilience.

As your body becomes more familiar with the demands of high-intensity work, several physiological systems begin to adapt. Muscles, tendons, and ligaments develop greater load tolerance, allowing for improved force production and durability. Simultaneously, your nervous system learns to manage the mental strain of discomfort and fatigue. Over time, these adaptations translate into faster, more efficient movement patterns and sharper mental focus under pressure. By embracing the challenge of red-zone workouts in training, you teach your body and brain how to thrive at high intensity—an ability that directly translates to better execution and faster results when it matters most: on race day.

Take some time and think about this principle: if you are familiar with speeds that are beyond your ability & speed levels last season, you will start your season above where you finished your season last year.  Think about this…Remember, Work Smart, Not Hard, and Avoid Overtraining!

Yours in sport & health,
